CFL's: A compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), though often a little more expensive than an incandescent light bulb, will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about 6 months as it uses 75% less energy and, generally speaking, lasts about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb. CFL's emit good, even light however, unless otherwise noted they cannot be used with a dimmer. Please keep in mind, because of the mercury content, CFL's may require special waste handling (please check with your states lamp disposal policies). source: www.energystar.gov
To help you select the correct wattage CFL, below is a wattage conversion guide, as well as the average life hours (ALH) of the CFL vs. an incandescent light bulb:
35w Incandescent = 11w CFL (5x the ALH)
60w Incandescent = 13w CFL (11x the ALH)
65w Incandescent = 15w CFL (11x the ALH)
75w Incandescent = 20w CFL (13x the ALH)
100w Incandescent = 23w CFL (13x the ALH)
120w Incandescent = 26w CFL (11x the ALH)
150w Incandescent = 40w CFL (11x the ALH)
250w Incandescent = 65w CFL (8x the ALH)
50/100/150w 3-Way Incandescent = 12/22/33w CFL (5x the ALH)
